Starting off with an acoustic rock style at the beginning of his career, John Mayer incorporated more of a blues influence from the likes B.B. King and Eric Clapton (who he later on had the chance to collaborate with). Since then, Mayer has graced the airwaves and stage with his soothing voice and fantastic power over the guitar. Coming out with tracks like 'Your Body Is A Wonderland' and 'No Such Thing' brought him awards and international recognition.
His new CD Battle Studies is a collection of his observations, life's lesson, and some advice. Mayer said Battle Studies is, "Like a heartbreak handbook."
The fourth track "Who says" challenges the mainstream media and their fascination with his personal life, with lyrics like "Who says I can't get stoned? / Plan a trip to Japan alone". Steering away from the style of song writing he did with the Continuum album, Mayer's aimed for something fresh and new. Touring alongside the album's release, Mayer has another wave of exposure for his music. Pushing for a greener tomorrow, his philanthropic work for countering global warming has led him to tour in a converted bio-diesel-fuelled bus, and contributes to events like Live Earth.
