Wire (TV Series) - Season 4 (Complete)

One of the reasons Series 4 of The Wire is so staggeringly good is the performance of the young actors featured. This series looks at another angle of the drug supply chain and at how the youth of Baltimore get involved in the drug dealing where they can earn good money, but could ultimately lead to their death. We see how the Baltimore education system attempts to give the kids a chance to escape the housing projects through education, but they are fighting a losing battle with many of the kids already resigned to a life of crime. We also follow the Baltimore Police Department trying to find the bodies from the escalating drug wars as they should be mounting up but are nowhere to be seen.

Roland Pryzbylewski, a supporting character in the previous 3 series, plays a major part as a teacher at the school where the series focuses. His attempts to educate the kids do not go smoothly initially, and neither do the plans of ‘Bunny’ Colvin as he tries to rehabilitate those children who are seriously disruptive to class. The Mayoral race also hots up as Councillor Carcetti takes on Mayor Clarence Royce to lead the city of Baltimore, and the gloves come off on several occasions as both men fight for their political careers.

There are some great performances across all the series of The Wire, but the kids, who this series is based around, steal the show. You might want to make sure you have the subtitles switched on during this series as the dialogue can be hard to follow!
